ABOUT ME

I grew up with five brothers, and together we turned our world into an endless playground of imagination. We built cities and battlefields out of scrap wood, acorns, dog fennel sticks—anything we could get our hands on. We crafted tiny rafts and raced them down the creek behind our house. That spirit of creativity never left me.
Today, I’m the father of three wonderful kids who continue to inspire both my life and my writing. I earned my dental degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 1994, then served ten years in the U.S. Navy. I now serve with the Florida National Guard and have spent more than twenty-five years working as a dentist with the Florida Department of Corrections.
Running has also been a major part of my life. I’ve coached middle school and high school distance runners, and I'm the head coach for the Florida Gateway College men’s cross-country team. Listening to young runners talk about the magical abilities they wished they had sparked countless stories—and eventually inspired me to start writing my own.
I’ve traveled around the world, seen many cultures, and let every experience feed my imagination. I love twisting plots, unexpected turns, and stories that surprise even me as I’m writing them. I don’t enjoy true tragedies, but I do love tales filled with wonder, growth, and hope.
If I’ve managed to capture even a fraction of the stories I’ve lived, heard, and imagined, then perhaps I’ve done something worthwhile. I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I’ve enjoyed creating them.

After a decade in the Navy Reserve, I joined the Florida Army National Guard in April 2017. As political changes in Florida took shape, I transferred to the Missouri Army National Guard in June 2025, where I continue to serve and plan to retire. I’ve earned several more awards since the photograph was taken.
